As a Personal Trainer I often come across infomercials offering equipment for exercising at home and I compare them and then write reviews on each regarding value for money, ease of each to use and set up, and how much good they will do a client.
Very popular on the Internet and informercial channels at present are two pieces of equipment called the Ab Circle Pro and the Firm Wave. The former involves kneeling on pads and moving your hips and can strengthen and tone your abdominal area, and the latter offers full body toning incorporated into a cardio workout.
Using the Ab Circle Pro you move the kneepads from side to side while leaning on the padded handlebars; your abdominal area and waist muscles are toned and you get a cardiovascular heart and lung workout at the same time.
Kneeling on all fours while using the Ab Circle Pro is quite uncomfortable at first, but is a great position for toning chest, shoulders and arms as well as building bone density in the wrists to guard against osteoporosis in later life.
When working out on this equipment, be very aware of your posture. Your shoulders should not be hunched, which will make your back look like a camel’s, and your lower back should just have a slight curve in it. In other words your pelvis should not be tilted forwards or backwards and this is the optimum position forgetting a great ab workout.
Conventional ab exercises are carried out lying on the floor; the problem here is that it is extremely difficult to work your abs correctly in this position without hurting your neck or your back, and you are more likely to make a bulging tummy look worse rather than better. If the Ab Circle Pro’s knee supports hurt your knees, try some kneepads.
Along with your Ab Circle Pro is a guide to low-calorie eating and a DVD workout to help your on your way to a toned, leaner body and sculpted abs. Remember that other forms of exercise are necessary for permanent weight loss results and full body toning.
The Firm Wave is a piece of moulded plastic shaped in a half circle, that is stable on one side for step exercises and unstable on the other side for rocking exercises that also work the core. Like the Ab Circle Pro it is easy to store and is useful for cardio exercise and as a platform for toning exercises and Pilates. It comes with several DVDs that give great workouts for your whole body.
